Here are but a few of the many ways japanese is comparatively easy, especially for native speakers of english: there are heaps of english loan words in japanese. if you grew up speaking english, congratulations! you won the linguistic lottery!. Learning any language is, to an extent, difficult. i think learning japanese is easy because i love to learn it and i thoroughly enjoy it. yet, i've been told multiple times that japanese is supposedly one of the most difficult languages for an english-speaker to learn. just make sure not to let things like that scare you away.. It is as hard for them to learn english than it is for us to learn japanese. but still, personally, i have seen many japanese with a very good english, and many non japanese with a good japanese, but none english speakers with a good japanese….
Both english and japanese have difficult writing systems. kanji kicks everyone’s asses – it takes japanese kids a long time to learn too. and english has a ton of irregularities that make it harder to learn to read than most languages that use the latin alphabet.. Romance languages are so easy for the english speaker. chinese isn’t as hard as people think it is and although the writing system is a nightmare, the grammar couldn’t be any simpler. japanese is difficult in a “weird” kind of way.. It’s obviously going to vary by person, but for me, japanese was considerably harder than other languages that had more in common with english..
